Independent and Portable Two-Way Conversation
This Deaf-Blind solution allows individuals the ability to communicate electronically face-to-face, or over a distance. The Interpretype® Deaf-Blind Communication System is a full-spectrum solution that is easy to use for communicating via Skype™, IP-Relay, SMS text messaging, instant messaging, and face to face. Users can communicate over a distance using the Internet, or face to face using Bluetooth®.
The Interpretype Deaf-Blind Communication System (ITY DBCS 2.0) includes two laptop computers loaded with Interpretype software. One computer also has JAWS® Professional screen-reading software and a Focus 40 Blue Braille Display. A one-touch setup launches text-only, video, or telephone mode for communication.
Distance Communication
For distance communication, users have the choice of using Skype, IP-Relay, SMS Text Messaging, or Instant Messaging. Once connected to the Internet using the included WiFi or Ethernet connection, users can connect to anyone by simply selecting the “Phone” icon. Placing calls using IP-Relay, texting, or instant messaging can be done within this Braille-friendly interface. It is easy to save contacts, buddy lists, and IP-Relay information for future use. No subscriptions or fees are required for any of these services.
Face-to-Face Communication
Face-to-face conversations with a sighted or another deaf-blind person are easily accomplished by connecting wirelessly to the included companion ITY computer. No Internet connection is needed for face-to-face conversations. Just select the “Text” icon on the ITY computers to open the Conversation Display Window, and connect to the companion computer automatically using Bluetooth. Once connected, conversations are easy using our face-to-face text-messaging application.
